Man, 80, taken to Medway Maritime Hospital after his car crash into road sign near Wainscott, A289

An 80-year-old man had to be cut out of his car on Sunday afternoon after an accident on the A289, Wainscott Bypass.

The man's car collided with a roadsign and he was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital as a priority with back and chest injuries, but was conscious in the ambulance.

The road after the Four Elms Hill roundabout towards Strood, was closed to allow the emergency services to deal with the situation.

Kent police said they were called at 1.40pm to reports that a car had collided with a roadsign on the A289 near the Medway City Estate.
