Police appeal after robbery and attempted abduction in railway street, Chatham

Police want witnesses after three robbers tried to abduct a man.

The victim was walking along Railway Street towards Chatham town centre when he was forced to hand over his mobile phone by three men at a bus stop.

The men then frogmarched him to a cash machine, and ordered him to withdraw money.

He was then taken to the railway station, where the suspects reportedly tired to force him into a white Fiat Diablo taxi.

The victim managed to get away, and the offenders left the scene in the taxi.

The incident happened between 10.10pm and 11.10pm on Wednesday, December 30, but police have only just released details.

The first of the three suspects is described as 6ft 3in with a shaved head. At the time he was wearing a parka style coat with a fur trim around the hood. He was also carrying a dark rucksack.

The second was 5ft 11in tall and was wearing a two toned black and white jacket. Beneath this was a red t-shirt with a gravestone on the chest. He had a "proportionate" build.

The third man was wearing a dark hoody at the time and is described as being shorter than the other two.

It is reported the suspects spoke to each other in Polish.

DC Chris Mason, investigating officer for the case, said: "I am hopeful people in the area may be able to recall seeing men of this description.

"This is the earliest opportunity we have had to do an appeal but we have been following a number of lines of enquiry during this investigation and would like anyone who thinks they may have information to call us.

"Even the smallest piece of information could help with the case."
