Arrest after Crystal Palace mascot Kayla the eagle attacked during Capital One Cup match

A Medway man has been arrested in connection with a ruckus that broke out at a football ground when an eagle was attacked.

Kayla, who is based at Eagle Heights, Eynsford, has been Crystal Palace’s mascot since 2010 and flies around the ground before kick-off at every home game.

A man from Rochester was arrested on November 18 following the violence that broke out during the game at the Capital One Cup match against Charlton Athletic in September.

He has since been bailed, along with six others from Greenwich, Plumstead, Welling, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets.

The men were taken in for an assortment of suspected offences, including violent disorder, assault on police, a public order offence and attempted criminal damage.

An eighth man has been charged with assault by beating.

DS Andy Collin said: “Violence amongst supporters has no place in football; be it before, during or after a match.”

Inquiries are continuing.
