Viridor recycling is back in business after massive blaze in June which could be seen from Tower Bridge

A £12.5 million recycling company is back in business after a massive blaze which could be seen from Tower Bridge.

Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the fire at Viridor, on the Medway City Estate, which broke out at 5pm on Sunday, June 7.

Viridor, which owns Rochester Plastics, confirmed that 500 tonnes of stock and an office building was destroyed by the flames.

The fire was in the input storage material and started while some operations were happening in the area.

There are no suspicious circumstances and staff on site attempted to put out the fire while emergency services were called. Nobody was injured.

Derek Edwards, regional director for Viridor, said: “I would like to express thanks on behalf of all at Viridor for the fast response and excellent cooperation from the emergency services that attended on the evening of the fire, especially Kent Fire and Rescue.

"Their fast action and partnership working with the Viridor team meant that the main building was prevented from sustaining any serious damage and has enabled us to return to operational status quickly and efficiently.
