Firefighters tackle BMW car fire in Corporation Street, Rochester

A car burst into flames on the side of a busy bus lane.

Video footage showed Rochester Bridge-bound traffic passing the Black BMW engulfed by a blaze in Corporation Street.

Firefighters were called to the scene, between the bus stop for Rochester Guildhall Museum and Parrs Head Mews, just before 2pm yesterday.

One fire engine attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus removed the bonnet of the vehicle and extinguished the fire using foam.

There were no reported injuries and the incident was declared over around an hour later.

It is believed the fire started due to an electrical fault and the car has since been recovered.
