Rochester: Boy, 7, hurt in railing fall

A boy of seven was taken to hospital after falling on to railings and suffering chest injuries.

The primary school pupil was injured outside McColl’s newsagents at the junction of Orion Road and Leander Road in Rochester, just before 4pm yesterday.

Police, the South East Coast Ambulance (Secamb) and the air ambulance were called to the scene.

The air ambulance helicopter landed on a field at nearby Thomas Aveling School. Secamb sent an ambulance and a fast response car.

Medics from Secamb and the air ambulance treated the boy at the scene.

He had injured his chest, underneath his arm, after falling onto railings at the side of the shop.

A spokesman for Secamb said: “The boy had a wound under his arm which was treated at the scene. He was described as stable as he left the scene in a land ambulance.

"The air ambulance team travelled with us to continue treatment.”

The boy was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.
