Rochester Bridge closed following motorcycle accident

A motorcyclist is believed to have been injured in a collision with a car in Rochester.

Police closed the nearby bridge to traffic coming from Strood after the accident near the Esplanade.

It happened at 3pm and police and ambulance crews are on the scene dealing with the incident.

Police confirmed the crash, saying: "Officers are at the scene alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service. Lane closures are in place."

The road fully reopened at around 4.35pm, but traffic is still queuing back into Strood where it remains at a virtual standstill.

While the bridge was closed, vehicles were being diverted along Station Road.

Highways officials say traffic going Westbound was also affected due to people slowing down to look at the accident.

The closure is having a major knock-on effect on roads in surrounding areas, including around the Medway City Estate.
