Part of a motorway was shut after a bus caught fire this morning.

The coach caught fire on the M2 London-bound between junction five for Sittingbourne and junction four for Gillingham.

All lanes of the motorway were shut London-bound while the fire was put out. The slip road off the motorway at junction four is still shut and will reopen after the road is resurfaced.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

No passengers were on the bus at the time and the driver was unhurt.

Two crews from Sittingbourne and one from Medway were called to the scene at 10.54am.

It took firefighters around half an hour to put the fire and the stop was called at 11.27am. Crews left the scene at 12.13pm.

The bus was completely destroyed.
