Car catches fire on Haig Avenue Chatham as it struggles up hill in snowy weather

Emergency services were called to a car fire in Haig Avenue today.

It seemed to be struggling to get through the snow before catching fire.

Aimee Flemming was out with her brother when she saw the car in the Chatham street.

She said: "We saw the car attempting to drive up the road, he couldn't make it and the next minute we saw a little bit of smoke coming from the bonnet.

"The driver lifted the bonnet and tried using a small fire extinguisher to put it out but it didn't work.

"Next minute the whole thing was up in flames."

Another witness said they saw the driver abandon the car after his attempts to put the fire out.

One fire engine was sent to the blaze at 11.38am and had dealt with the fire by 12.09pm.

No one was injured and the cause is not yet known.
