Helicopter used in 'stolen' vehicle car chase from Sheppey to Thamesmead

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of GBH after a high speed car chase involving a vehicle that had allegedly been stolen.

Using a helicopter and vehicles on the ground, police pursued the car on the A2 from Sheppey to Thamesmead.

The driver was taken into custody and is also on recall to prison.

Kent Police's roads unit and the NPAS Redhill police helicopter team tweeted about the drama in the early hours of this morning.

A police spokesman said: "At around 10.30pm on Sunday, August 13 2017 Kent Police received information stating a vehicle, believed to be stolen, was travelling in the Leysdown Road area of Sheppey.

"The vehicle was located in the Raspberry Hill Lane area and failed to stop when requested to do so.

"A pursuit was subsequently authorised, with support provided by the National Police Air Service.

"At around 11.25pm the vehicle entered the Bexleyheath area and management of the incident was handed over to the Metropolitan Police, whose officers later arrested a man."
