Crash causes delays on coast-bound carriageway of M2 near Gillingham after smash

A pensioner was left trapped when her car crashed and overturned on the coast-bound carriageway of the M2.

The red vehicle was left on its roof after colliding with another vehicle just after junction 4 for Gillingham at around 9.20am.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were called to the scene. Crews used hydraulic cutting gear to free the trapped woman, aged in her 70s.

She was assessed and treated before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with shoulder pain.

The accident closed the road while the emergency services dealt with the incident, but the carriageway had reopened by 11.30am.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 9.22am on Wednesday 1 November 2017 to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the M2 between junction four and five on the coast-bound carriageway.

"Officers are at the scene along with SECAMB and Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and injuries have been reported."
