Police close James Street, Gillingham after cars crash into house

Police closed a road in Gillingham after two vehicles crashed into a house.

Officers were called to James Street shortly after 1.30pm to a report two cars had collided and then hit the building.

Firefighters, ambulance crews and police spent several hours dealing with the incident.

The road has been closed between Jefferies Street and Cross Street junctions.

Crews helped release a man from one of the vehicles, who has now been passed into the care of ambulance teams.

It is understood some people have been injured.

Vicki Foster, spokesman for police, said: "Kent Police was called at 1.36pm.

"Injuries have been reported and a road closure is in place on James Street near to Cross Street while the incident is dealt with."

The road eventually reopened at around 7.45pm.
