CCTV issued after burglaries in Rochester, Gravesend and Northfleet

Police have launched an appeal after a spate of burglaries by fraudsters posing as conmen to talk their way into victims' homes.

Six separate raids happened on the same day in Rochester, Gravesend and Northfleet.

Officers have now issued CCTV images of a man they want to talk to.

The first burglary happened at a property in the Weller Avenue area of Rochester on Wednesday, April 13.

A man called at the home claiming he was there to check the gas and electric meters. The victim, a man in his 80s, grew suspicious when he was asked to go to the bathroom and turn the tap on so the man could check the boiler.

He asked the man to leave and nothing was stolen.

On the same day, two men entered a home in St Gregory's Crescent Gravesend between 8.55am and 9.20am, claiming to be checking for damp.

They were challenged for identification and left.

Then between 12.15pm and 12.30pm, a man distracted a woman in her front garden while an accomplice made his way in through the back and stole cash from inside.

In Harden Road, Northfleet, between 1pm and 1.30pm, a man claiming to be from the water board told the victim there was a leak and asked to be seen through to the back garden while an accomplice entered through the front door and stole cash.

Then between 1.50pm and 2.10pm, a man claiming to be carrying out pavement works distracted the victim away from his front door in Hall Road, Northfleet, while an accomplice entered and stole a safe containing personal belongings.

In the same road, between 2.30pm and 3pm, a man claiming to be from the water board distracted the victim while an accomplice entered and searched the property. Nothing was stolen.
