Cinema goers in Medway will be able to watch Disney’s Alice in Wonderland film before it hits the cinema.

Cineworld in Rochester is holding a regional premier of the Tim Burton’s fantasy adventure this Thursday - on the same night as the world premier in London.

An audience of 140 people will watch the action unfold at the same time as Hollywood stars Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, who star in the movie, and VIP guests The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The cinema in Chariot Way will have a live link to London’s Leicester Square to catch all the glitz and glamour as the stars arrive and make their way down the red carpet.

The venue also hopes to have a red carpet of its own and staff plan to dress up for the occasion.

Thorsten Simpole, operations manger at Cineworld Rochester, said: “It is exciting for us because it will be the first time Medway is involved with a premiere. It is even more of a coup for us because we are the only exhibitor that will be showing Alice in Wonderland due to the dispute over the DVD release date.”

The 3D movie, based on Lewis Carroll’s classic novel, features a large British cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Matt Lucas, Michael Sheen, Stephen Fry and Timothy Spall.

Alice in Wonderland will be shown at Cineworld Rochester from Friday, March 5.
