A cold case review team has joined the hunt for the killer of Antoine Denis – four years after he was stabbed to death in his flat.

Mr Denis, 64, who lived alone in Copperfield House, New Road. was found on January 9, 2010, having not been seen for 12 days.

Neighbours raised the alarm when they found the front door ajar. Two men were arrested in connection with the crime, but they were never charged.

A 39-year-old woman was charged with murder, but the charge was later dropped.

During an inquest, it emerged that police called to the scene initially did not notice a knife in his back.

Undertakers preparing to move the body, which was propped up awkwardly against a bed, found the blade. The mishandling of the crime scene sparked an internal investigation by Kent Police and an officer received a verbal warning.

After his death, Mr Denis’s family said: “Not many people are aware that Antoine had a family who cared about him.

“We have been deeply affected by his death and we would ask anybody who knows anything about what happened to help.”

DCI Dave Chewter added: “This case has now been passed over to the review and cold case team.

“The case is still open and as per last year’s update, we would urge anyone with any new information to come forward.”
