Five people were injured when a marked Kent Police car responding to an emergency call was in a crash with a van in Grain.

The collision happened on the B2001 Grayne Road as the Volvo police car headed towards Hoo at 10.13am yesterday.

It involved a green Ford Transit and three men inside - aged 43, 39 and 34 - suffered whiplash injuries and were treated at Medway Maritime Hospital.

The two police officers in the car were also treated in hospital, but later discharged.

The road was closed for several hours to allow investigations to be carried out at the scene by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

Police are today appealing for witnesses to the crash.

DS Scott Lynch said: "I have had a brief look at the CCTV of the scene. Moments after the collision at least nine vehicles had stopped and there appeared to be dozens of people milling around.

"However, I only have the details of one witness so I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward."

Witnesses can phone the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
