New evidence casts doubt on Michael Stone's conviction for murders of Lin and Megan Russell

New evidence is believed to have been unearthed which casts doubt on the conviction of Michael Stone for the brutal double killing of a mother and daughter more than 20 years ago.

Lin and Megan Russell were discovered on a country lane in Chillenden in 1996.

Michael Stone, from Gillingham, was locked up for their murders in 2001.

He is serving three life sentences for the killings of Lin Russell and her daughter Megan, six, and the attempted murder of Megan’s sister Josie, nine, on the remote footpath near Canterbury in 1996. He has always protested his innocence.

It is understood his legal team will release details later today which links the crime to serial killer Levi Bellfield, who is currently serving two whole life terms for separate offences.
