Couple's shock at indecent images case involving wedding photographer Phil Davidson

A couple have spoken of their disgust after finding out their wedding photographer has been convicted of possessing indecent images of children.

Father-of-two Phil Davidson downloaded vile film clips of youngsters being abused and sex with animals.

He was arrested last December, but before he was charged, he continued working as a bus driver and part-time photographer.

He ran his own photography business, Storybook Photography, and after his arrest continued to book jobs and take wedding photos for couples across the county.

In March, he worked at the wedding of David and Jennifer Skilton at Knowle Country House, in Higham.

The couple from Walderslade said they would have stopped him covering their special day if they had known he had been arrested.

Mr Skilton, 33, said: “We actually had him over to our house in January and we paid him a deposit and the rest was in instalments.

“Obviously, if we had known in December that he had been arrested we would’ve both quite happily binned him off.

“And to be honest, I wouldn’t have let him anywhere remotely close to my house because if someone is associated with that, I don’t think I’d be able to control myself.

“It’s made even more sick because I’ve got a young niece and nephew, my wife’s young cousins, our flower girl is 10-years-old.

“He was actually in my wife’s salon with her and her young flower girl whilst they’re all getting ready, getting changed.

“He was in the room when my wife was being fastened into her dress.

“She’s disgusted that a convicted paedophile was basically in the same room as her talking very casually four months after he was arrested or after his house was raided.

“It’s quite disgusting to think he shared a room with them.”

As reported last week, Davidson, of Keating Close, Rochester, admitted possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography, and has been jailed for 16 months.

The married 39-year-old amassed a collection of 527 movies featuring children as young as 18 months suffering serious sex acts involving bondage and even a dog.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the clips at the most serious level would take three and a half days to view.

Mr Skilton said: “I am sickened, shocked, disgusted, and now I am expecting my own child I have a completely new perspective on him.

“The crime is so serious he should have been remanded in custody the whole time.

"How can someone who had committed such a crime be allowed anywhere near children at all?

“It makes you wonder if he took any pictures of children at weddings and loaded them up to the dark web.

“I know of three or four couples who also had their wedding photos done by him.

“It is very worrying he was working as a photographer up to about three or four weeks ago.”

Davidson was charged in June.

On his company website, www.storybookphotos.co.uk, Davidson wrote this about his interest in photography: “Ever since I was young I have loved photos, capturing moments on my dad’s camera and using rolls of film hoping my photos would be great.

“This paved the way for me to offer my passion to others in the form of images.

“I am based in Kent, but I travel all over the UK and abroad capturing those perfect moments for couples.”

Davidson at first denied being responsible for downloading the indecent images when police raided his home on December 19 last year.

But later he bizarrely claimed it gave him relief from depression by seeing “worse pain” inflicted in the images.

His name will be on the sex offenders register for 10 years and a sexual harm prevention order was made for the same period.

He will be barred indefinitely from working with children and vulnerable adults.

When Davidson was charged in June, he was suspended from his job with Arriva buses and has now been sacked. The firm says it acted as soon as it learned about the matter.
