Couple taken to hospital after candle fire in Love Lane, Rochester

A couple were taken to hospital this morning after an unattended candle set a table on fire.

Firefighters were called to Love Lane, Rochester, at 4.47am this morning after the incident, which filled their home with smoke.

A candle in the dining room, which was kept in a large vase containing plastic balls, was left unattended.

As it burnt it set the balls alight and the flames spread to the table.

The table suffered 25% damage and 90% of the home was damaged by smoke.

Firefighters administered first aid at the scene, to the couple, in their 50s, for smoke inhalation.

They were taken to hospital as a precaution.
