Andrew Huntley was caught with 300 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin in Humber Crescent, Strood

A drug dealer caught with almost 300 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin ready for supply has been jailed for two years.

The haul of drugs was discovered when Andrew Huntley was stopped in a hired Peugeot 208 in Humber Crescent, Strood.

The 25-year-old cannabis user claimed he agreed to transport the drugs to Medway from London to pay off a debt to his dealer.

Prosecutor Alex Rooke said after being stopped Huntley was asked to get out of the car. He was reluctant and was fiddling with his mobile phone.

As he got out a bundle fell to the ground. It contained 199 wraps of heroin and 100 wraps of cocaine, worth a total of up to £5,000 on the street.

“His phone was busy buzzing when he was arrested,” Mr Rooke told Maidstone Crown Court.

When his home was searched over £1,000 was found, along with £340 worth of Amazon vouchers paid for in cash.

Mr Rooke said it appeared Huntley had “laundered” drug money by turning some of it into vouchers.

“It has some novelty and ingenuity about it,” he said. “He was, one would say, bang to rights.”

Huntley, of Hopedale Road, Greenwich, south east London, admitted possessing drugs with intent to supply.

Keith Middleton, defending, said Huntley, who played football for a team called London Boys, had a cannabis habit costing about £150 a week.

After he lost his job at a warehouse his dealer gave him credit and he ran up a £1,000 debt.

“His dealer started to put pressure on him and intimated he knew where his three-year-old daughter was living. He said the debt could be cleared if he did something for him.

“He met the dealer in Blackheath. He was provided with a car. He asked him to drive the package to the Medway Towns.

“He pulled up where he was supposed to meet someone but was surrounded by police officers.”

Recorder Jason Dunn-Shaw said was prepared to put Huntley in the category of “lesser role” and would reduce the sentence to two years imprisonment.
