Multiple crashes cause delays on M2 near Chatham

Drivers are facing long delays after three crashes on the M2 in Medway this evening.

The first crash happened on the coast-bound carriageway near junction 3, just before the bridge at about 5.30pm, and involved at least four cars.

A second crash occurred up the road, just off the M2 on the A229 junction, also involving several cars, including a white BMW which had its roof removed by firefighters.

A further pile-up involving five vehicles on the opposite side of the motorway happened shortly afterwards.

It is not known if anyone has been seriously injured in any of the accidents, but ambulances were called to all three.

Traffic stretched back several miles coast-bound, causing delays across the Medway towns.

The travel situation was further exacerbated by a further crash on the M20 involving a lorry and a car, coast-bound between junction 4 for Leybourne and junction 5 for Aylesford.
