Firefighters were called to tackle a house boat fire in Hoo this morning. Crews left the scene shortly after 9am.

The emergency services were called to Hoo Ness Yacht Club in Vicarage Lane just after 8am.

Crews in breathing apparatus used a hose reel to tackle the blaze on the 30ft vessel which was on hard standing.

Onlookers at the site said the inside of the boat had been burnt out but that crews had saved it from being totally destroyed.

The cause of the blaze was not known and club officials were not willing to provide further comment until the owner had been contacted.

The fire was not thought to be suspicious , they said.
