Nico Adams of Lobelia Close, Gillingham has been jailed for a string of driving offences.

A tearaway who was caught driving dangerously twice - once while drunk - in the space of two weeks has been jailed for two years and four months.

During one of the incidents Nico Adams crashed his car, in which his girlfriend was a passenger. He was also caught with a large amount of cocaine.

The 21-year-old father, of Lobelia Close, Gillingham, admitted two offences of dangerous driving, two of driving while disqualified, not having insurance and possessing the drug.

He was banned from driving for a further three years and will have to take an extended test before he can get his licence back.

Police spotted Adams - who has poor vision in one eye after an ammonia attack - driving his Ford Mondeo on August 15 last year knowing he was disqualified.

He took off at speed breaking limits in Castlemaine Avenue, Grange Road, Lower Woodlands Avenue and Second Avenue, Gillingham, and officers lost him when their speed reached 85mph.

Adams smashed into a parked car causing it extensive damage.

He was seen driving the same car again in Star Hill, Rochester, on August 29. He drove at over 70mph and crashed.

It was then that 19.58 grammes of cocaine worth about £900 was found in the footwell.

Adams claimed he was taking the drug to ease the pain he suffered from having ammonia thrown in his face, affecting the sight in his left eye.

Michael Smalley, defending, said Adams was using one to three grammes of cocaine a day.

“The dangerous driving was as a result of panic because he was a disqualified driver,” he said. “He has a relatively low IQ. He is showing signs of post traumatic stress disorder.”

Judge Heather Baucher said Adams had been sentenced to 15 months youth custody in 2013 for dangerous driving, when he drove at somebody who was breaking up a fight.

“These were terrible driving offences,” she told him.
