Delays have also built up on the A228 south-bound at M20 J4 for Leybourne, as drivers avoid the accident site, which is not helped by roadworks in the area.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "At 4.55am on Wednesday Kent Police was called to the M2 London-bound, near junction 1, after receiving a report that a vehicle was obstructing the carriageway.

"Shortly after this initial report, a two vehicle collision was reported to have taken place.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

"No serious injuries have been reported however one person has been taken to a local hospital."
