Cigarette sparks undergrowth fire in Hoo

Fire spread through undergrowth after a cigarette is thought to have been discarded.

Firefighters were called to Pankhurst Road, Hoo, just after 6.30pm tonight.

One engine was sent, and crews used a hose reel to put out the fire, which had spread from undergrowth along a footpath to fences at the back of Pankhurst Drive.

Firefighters have warned smokers to be extra careful when discarding cigarettes from car windows or into hedges.

They urged people to ensure the cigarette is fully out before moving on.
