A driver was said to be badly shaken but unhurt after crashing into railings in Pier Road, Gillingham.

Police were called shortly after the accident at about 11.30am, and closed one lane of the road while the car was recovered.

A police spokesman was unsure how the accident happened but this picture taken by a passerby suggests the silver hatchback had come from the direction of Milner Road before it hit the railings.

No other vehicles were involved and Medway council had been informed so the railings could be replaced.

It is thought the driver was a female student.
