Police and ambulance crews called to Cliffe Woods on Hoo Peninsula after body discovered in woodland

A man's body has been found in woodland on the Hoo Peninsula.

The grim discovery was made at Cliffe Woods at about 4.30pm yesterday when police, ambulance crews and a fire engine were called to Town Road in the village.

Kent Police say the body is that of a 61-year-old Medway man, and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

His next of kin have been informed.

Eye witnesses reported several police cars in a field next to woodland.

Officers cordoned off the area and a fire engine with a ladder was later seen close to the woods, just before 7pm.

A report has been prepared for the coroner.
