A former police officer has appeared in court accused of misconduct over CCTV footage of an alleged incident involving England captain Steven Gerrard.

Helen Jones, 33, who lives in Colchester Close, Chatham, was arrested following the alleged confrontation between the Liverpool captain and a man near a Merseyside shop in August last year.

Jones faces a misconduct in a public office charge over allegations she picked up the Formby shop’s CCTV footage while off-duty.

She appeared before South Selfton Magistates’ Court last week for a brief appearance and the case against her was adjourned and Jones was granted bail.

She is next due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Thursday, January 23.

Jones was apparently on a career break from Merseyside Police at the time of the alleged incident, the force confirmed, but has since resigned.
