Will Ferrell, known for Anchorman and Buddy, stars in Holmes and Watson being filmed at Chatham's Historic Dockyard

A movie featuring Hollywood star Will Ferrell is being filmed at Chatham’s Historic Dockyard.

The actor, best known for his roles as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman and Buddy in festive favourite Elf, is starring in a comedic take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective Sherlock Holmes.

Ferrell, who will play Sherlock, will be joined by fellow Step Brothers actor, John C Reilly, as John Watson.

The pair previously worked together on Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby which was released in 2006.

Filming for Holmes and Watson started at the Historic Dockyard on Sunday. Film crews are expected to be there for two weeks.

Comedian and actor Rob Brydon will also star in the film as Inspector Lestrade. The film will be directed by Etan Cohen, who worked with Ferrell in Get Hard, last year.

No release date for the film has been set.
