Medway firefighters had a busy afternoon when they were called to three separate fires.

A crew was called to Coney Banks in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, at about 1pm yesterday when a 30 square metre grass fire broke out.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said it was hard to determine if the fire had been started deliberately.

Then 50 minutes later, firefighters were called to a kitchen fire after a cooker caught alight.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene in Weybridge Close, Lordswood. Firefighters put out the blaze quickly, but the kitchen suffered minor smoke damage.

About 40 minutes later at 2.30pm, three fire engines were called to a block of flats after a blaze started in a bin.

The fire at Wellington Court, in Bryant Street, Strood, caused minor smoke damage. It is not known if the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.
