Firefighters spent two hours battling a blaze at a block of garages in Rochester last night.

Crews from Strood and Medway were called to St William's Way at about 7.30 where one of 12 garages was well alight.

Crew manager Terry Beal said: "It appeared to have been used as a rubbish skip. There was builder's rubble and even a tree dumped in there."

The building was destroyed. The cause is being investigated.
