The Proms will bring four nights of the 2014 Castle Concerts to a close on Saturday July 19 with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

It’s one of the few times Britons let themselves show a bit of patriotism, so grab your flag and get set to wave it.

The Proms, as ever, will bring four nights of the 2014 Castle Concerts to a close on Saturday July 19.

Keeping with tradition The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will provide the grand finale; with the stirring notes of Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory echoing round the picturesque Castle Gardens.

Union flag in one hand, glass of champagne in the other, friends and families can enjoy a day of picnics and classical music followed by fireworks.

The orchestra will be joined on stage by soloist soprano Jo Appleby as well as the Hertfordshire Chorus, one of the country’s finest large choirs.

"I can’t think of a better and more dramatic way of rounding off the concerts" - Cllr Howard Doe

Cllr Howard Doe, head of community services, said: “The Proms has become a signature part of the Castle Concerts line up and I can’t think of a better and more dramatic way of rounding off the concerts than with the sound of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

“It’s going to be spectacular as always, so be sure to book your tickets soon to avoid disappointment.”

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has toured extensively, including Scandinavia, Russia, Estonia, the USA, Spain, Turkey and Monaco.

They have performed with Jose Carreras, Liza Minnelli and the OperaBabes, as well as toured the UK with Russell Watson and Lesley Garrett and Sir Cliff Richard.
