Drunk teenage girl filmed allegedly being raped by James Leppard and molested by Tommy Conway in Chatham, court hears

A drunk teenage girl was raped by one youth and molested by two others as her friend filmed it on her mobile phone, a court heard.

The girl, 17, was so inebriated that she was not aware of what happened until she was later shown the video clips.

Maidstone Crown Court heard she had earlier been to a birthday party in Chatham and drank "everything from vodka, Malibu, Bacardi, beer and wine".

Around midnight on March 14 last year a friend arrived and they met up with 18-year-old James Leppard.

They, Tommy Conway, 18, and others squeezed into a car and vodka was bought from a petrol station before going to Leppard's home. There, they played drinking games.

Prosecutor Nina Ellin said they drank wine as well as vodka and the youths were shouting "Down it" to the alleged victim. Both she and Conway, 18, were sick.

"She was drunk," Miss Ellin told a jury. "Her friend describes her as not really knowing what was happening or what she was doing. If she stood up, she fell down immediately."

She remembered others arriving, but nothing more until she later woke up next to Leppard. Her friend was able to say what happened.

"It was clear she was effectively unconscious from drink" - Nina Ellin, prosecuting

She told police she saw Leppard leading the alleged victim upstairs. She could hardly stand. The friend went up and recorded what was happening.

Miss Ellin said the friend thought it was funny at that point. She burst into the bedroom and shouted: "Oi, oi". She saw Leppard on top of her friend and said "Oh ****".

The teenager was lifeless and making no sound. "It was clear she was effectively unconscious from drink," said Miss Ellin.

As the friend videoed it, Conway and Harry Ludlow, 20, entered the room. Conway jumped on top of Leppard while he was having sex. He picked up the girl's legs.

Ludlow also jumped on. The jury of ten men and two women were shown the clips.

The friend went downstairs but was concerned and returned. Leppard was behind the girl, who was face down and completely unaware of what was happening, said Miss Ellin.

Conway slapped her bare bottom hard. He said: "Man, give me a turn."

He went behind her but Leppard said: "No way. She is asleep innit. ******* a girl that's asleep innit, that's technical rape."

They continued to laugh as they left the room.

Miss Ellin said the girl took about an hour to come round. "She was completely unaware it happened," she said.

"You will hear James Leppard being described as legend."

The friend told her she had the clips. She asked to see them.

"She could see herself she was completely out of it while James was having sex with her."

Leppard, of Sword Grove, Wainscott, denies two charges of rape. Conway, of no fixed address, denies two charges of sexual assault.

Conway was not in the dock and Judge Michael Carroll told jurors not to speculate on the reason for his absence.

The trial continues.
