Chatham family hope to make amazing memories for dad, Paul Gray, after his cancer returns

The family of a father-of-four who successfully battled cancer twice, have launched massive fundraising drive after his cancer returned.

Paul Gray, 36, who is from Chatham, was first diagnosed with cancer of the voice box back in 2015, but successfully beat the disease, twice.

Mr Gray, who is married to Charmaine and had his voicebox removed last year to stop the cancer spreading and was initially given the all clear.

However, the family who live in Herman Terrace, recently learned his cancer had returned and is now terminal.

As a result, Mr Gray’s foster daughter, Sarah Card, 23, has set up a JustGiving fundraising page so the family can make some amazing memories before his time runs out.

Mr Gray and his wife have four children together, Jade, 16, Charlie, 12, Freddie, nine, and Georgina, five, and kind-hearted Sarah wanted to make sure they all had some precious memories with their dad before it is too late.

Initially Sarah wanted to raise £1,000 for the cause, but within two days, supporters had smashed that target.

Sarah, who works at an estate agents, said: “Cancer has taken too much time from my family and has taken the fun daddy the kids once had.

“One day their daddy won’t be here but the memories will live on forever.

“I want my family to smile not cry.

“I generally didn’t think I would raise the target.

“You just don’t realise how much support you have until you reach out for it.

“He is also a Manchester United fan so I have contacted them to see if they will get involved, so fingers crossed.”

Some of ideas on what to the family want to do with the money is staging a christening for daughter Georgina, a weekend away for the whole family and a trip to the beach.

The aim is to create as many memories as possible in the time they have left.
