Defender Tom Wynter has more reason than most to end Gillingham’s winless run at Brentford on Saturday.

The Gills are seven games without a win while Wynter, pictured, has yet to taste a victory in the first team – making him doubly determined to set the record straight.

"We’ve had lots of draws but it will be good to get that first win," said Wynter.

"It would be a great time to start as well, especially with it being a local derby.

"We haven’t lost in the last three league games and in some of those matches we should have got a couple of wins but we haven’t managed to do it."

The 19-year-old has also caught the eye of supporters after he was named The KM Group’s player-of-the-month for January.

"I’m quite happy with how I’ve played," added Wynter. "I’m still being picked in the team so I must be doing something right."

Wynter, who enjoyed a loan spell at Dover earlier this season, is also playing for a new contract as his one-year extension runs out in the summer.

"I’m still playing for my future – in every training session and game I’m trying to improve," he said.

"The manager hasn’t said anything yet but I have to keep working hard."
