A courier depot had to be evacuated when a skip fire spread to a building.

Firefighters were called to Parcel Force, in Chieftain Close, Gillingham Business Park, at about 1.40pm yesterday.

An industrial-sized skip filled with building materials had caught light and the flames soon spread to the outside of a nearby building.

Two crews from Medway fire station were at the scene, as well as a specialist height vehicle.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said all staff were safely out of the depot when they arrived.

He added: "We used jets to protect the building and we also got up on to the roof to put out the fire in the skip."

The emergency crews left the site at 4.30pm.
