Man arrested in Gillingham connection with murder of Ben Fasina in Abbey Wood, in London

A man has been arrested in Gillingham on suspicion of murder and is currently being questioned by police in south London.

The 21-year-old who has not been named was arrested at an address in the town, on Monday on suspicion of murdering Olamide Fasina, who was known as Ben.

Mr Fasina was apparently stabbed to death in Wolvercote Road, in Abbey Wood, on Tuesday, October 14.

It is understood attempts were made to save Mr Fasina’s life after the incident, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man is the second to be arrested in connection with the murder after officers from the Metropolitan Police arrested a 22-year-old last Friday .

The 22-year-old was subsequently bailed to pending further enquiries.

Detectives investigating the killing continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and assist with their investigation.

A spokesman for Metropolitan Police said they were called to Wolvercote Road, shortly before 2.15pm last Tuesday.

Officers found a large group of men congregating at the scene and 25-year-old Mr Fasina who lived in Erith, had suffered a stab wound.

London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance also attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination was held on Thursday, October 16, at the Princess Royal Hospital and gave cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

DCI Russell Taylor, who is leading the investigation said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen either the build-up to this incident or the aftermath following the assault.

“There would have been a significant number of people around at this time of day and I would urge anyone who can assist this investigation to contact the incident room without delay.”

Officers know the victim was with a group of friends and associates that day and are keen to speak to anyone yet to come forward.
