Gillingham railway death victim named as Steven Knights

A man who died on the railway near Gillingham last week, has been named as Steven Knights.

Mr Knights’ body was found on the track in Twydall, last Thursday, September 6.

The emergency services were called to the Lower Tywdall Lane foot crossing at about 8.15am after Mr Knight, 40, was hit by a train.

An inquest into his death is due to be opened and adjourned today (Sept 11), and a post-mortem revealed he died of multiple injuries.

Southeastern trains were delayed as all lines between Gillingham and Newington were blocked.

Replacement buses were ordered for Gillingham to run to all stations to Faversham.

At the time a British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman confirmed a man had died on the track between Rainham and Gillingham, closer to Gillingham station.

Mr Knight had lived Gourdhurst Road, Twydall, and a full inquest into his death will be held at a later date.
