A teenage girl was shot in the face with a BB gun, it is alleged.

Police are investigating the suspected assault in the woods near Cragie Walk, Parkwood, Rainham.

It was reported that a 13-year-old girl suffered an injury to her right eye after being hit with a pellet from a BB gun at round 5pm on September 26.

Her mother, who did not wish to be named, said yesterday the teenager had been left deeply upset by the attack and was still receiving treatment at Maidstone hospital.

She added yesterday: "The eye is now bleeding at the back and until the bleed stops we don't know the full extent of the damage to her retina. We've been told worse case she will need to have laser eye done."

The attack was said to be random, while the teen was out with friends. She was unable to give any description of the boys involved so the family are not hopeful about catching the culprits.

However police are investigating and anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting reference XY/33589/15.
