Olympic gold medalist and former Holcombe Hockey Club player Maddie Hinch joins Team GB for celebration parades in Manchester and London

Olympic champion Maddie Hinch was able to celebrate with the rest of Team GB after a cancelled flight meant she almost missed the celebration parades.

The gold medalist joined the rest of her hockey team on bus number eight for the parade in Manchester yesterday to celebrate the achievements of the Olympic and Paralympic teams in Rio this summer, and they were all back on board today for the parade in London.

The former Holcombe Hockey Club player was due to fly from Amsterdam yesterday morning to Manchester but found her FlyBe flight had been cancelled.

Stuck at Schipol Airport, Maddie had been tweeting trying to find an alternative flight and at 1pm appeared to have been rescued by a KLM flight.

She tweeted a video of her on the plane, saying: "Wooo wooo. I'm on my way!"

Maddie was a key member of the team which won gold in Rio and the goalkeeper is now playing for Dutch club, SCHC.

Along with team mates, Shona McCallin and Nicola White, she received a heroes' welcome when she returned to her former club in Rochester after the Games

The golden girls met both junior and senior members of the club and posed for a team photo.

Speaking on the day, Maddie said she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a return to Holcombe.

"I’ve been at this club for three years," she said. "I’m in Holland at the minute but hopefully I’ll be back in a year’s time."
