Hockey golden girl Sam Quek voted off I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Golden girl Sam Quek narrowly missed a place in the I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! final as she became the ninth campmate to get voted off of the show on Saturday night.

The Olympic hockey champion was one of four players from Holcombe Hockey Club in Rochester, who were part on the triumphant Team GB in Rio.

The 28-year-old spent 22 days in the jungle and was pipped to the post by Adam Thomas, Scarlett Moffatt and Joel Dommett, who all compete for the jungle crown on Sunday.

Sam stayed in the competition longer than TV presenter Carol Vorderman and former England footballer Wayne Bridge.

When Ant and Dec told her time in the jungle was up, she said to her fellow campmates: “Honestly you’ve been amazing, I can't wait to see you tomorrow smash it all. Love you Scarlet!”

Speaking to the pair afterwards, she said: “I’m so nervous and so happy, I cant believe it. I never expected to get so far.

“I’m shaking, I’m a bit emotional. Yesterday felt like the final, all of us were so tight.

“I’m so humbled. It's when you sit back and think outside the jungle people are calling to vote for you, I can't comprehend it.

“I came in here to keep hockey on the map, to inspire young boys and girls that sport is cool.”

Sam also said her time in the jungle was a lot tougher than she thought it would be.

“In the jungle I learned lessons about myself that I would never learn anywhere else,” she said. “It’s crazy but I loved every minute.”

When asked who she wanted to win the show, Sam said: “It’s a tough one, but my gut and my heart would say Adam. Like me, he’s come a long way with his fear of spiders and critters.”

The final of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! will be live on ITV at 9pm on Sunday.
