Holidaymakers claim their resort has become a building site after a demolition team moved in.

Chalets in Allhallows Leisure Park have been knocked down over the last few weeks after the owners’ 42-year leases ended.

People staying there say it has made their summer a noisy nightmare.

Terry-Ann Thomas, 55, from Allhallows Chalet Owners’ Association, said: “It is not a leisure park any more – it is a building site.

“There is debris and dust everywhere along with a big JCB and another van. It is dangerous and there are children about.

“It was really noisy when they started the work and those that lived right next to the first chalet being demolished could not sit outdoors. Everyone is really annoyed about it.”

One visitor who didn’t want to be named said: “We were told the chalets were not going to be pulled down until the park was closed down in the winter.

"Who wants to come to a site where buildings are being demolished? There is dust everywhere.

"We are having to keep the children inside and that’s not what you need when you are on holiday.

“We came here to have a nice time during the kids’ summer holiday to enjoy the sunshine – not to sit indoors.”

Up to 300 chalets are to be demolished in the next few years, but the work has been stalled by legal wranglings.

Fellow holidaymakers are hoping to prepare another case. If the company is successful the long-stay homes, owned by individual holidaymakers, could be replaced with short-term holiday lets.

A spokesman for the park said no promises had been made about the demolition’s timing.

He said: “Seven chalets were due to be demolished between now and the end of the year. They’ve demolished three. The rest will be done later, out of season.

“The council are very much in favour of what’s happening and the courts have ruled in favour – it’s not something out of the blue.”
