Ice hockey stars the Invicta Dynamos have pledged their support to the British Transplant Games, which celebrates those who are alive thanks to an organ transplant.

Competitors from across the country will converge on Medway in August to take part in the Games, which aims to increase the number of people on the Organ Donor Register.

Athletes and their families held a bucket collection before the Dynamos game against the Romford Raiders at the weekend and raised £100. Another collection will be held in the new year.

The team are also in the process of signing up to the organ donor register and plan to sign up as a sponsor of the Games, which will take place at Medway Park from August 23 to 26.

Glenn Thompson, business development director at the club, said: "It's a cause we're more than happy to support."

The Games will feature sports including track and field, tennis, table tennis, badminton and swimming.

The official launch was held at Rochester Cathedral last month, and included a moving speech from one of the estimated 600 athletes who will take part.

Eight-year-old George Penhaligan's life was saved when his dad Phil donated his kidney in 2010. People are encouraged to sign the donor register and enter a donor run, from 3km to 5km.
