Lorry driver taken to hospital after crashing vehicle into lamppost on exit slip road on M2 at Chatham

A lorry driver was taken to hospital after crashing his vehicle into a lamppost on a motorway slip road.

The accident happened on the exit at Junction 3 for Chatham, shortly before 9am.

The HGV is thought to have mounted a kerb before hitting the lamppost.

The accident has caused lane closures until the vehicle can be recovered.

James Walker, spokesman for police said: "Kent Police was called to a single vehicle collision on the junction 3 exit of the M2, near Blue Bell Hill, at 8.53am.

"Officers have attended the scene along with crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, who conveyed one man to a local hospital.

"Recovery for the lorry has been arranged however, to ensure public safety, some lane closures have been enforced."
