The M2 has re-opened after a multi-vehicle smash.

The London-bound carriage of the motorway was shut between junction three for Chatham and junction two for Strood, causing a queue of traffic back to junction four for Gillingham.

All four lanes were initially closed after the crash, which happened at 1pm.

One lane was reopened just after 2pm and all lanes were later reopened at about 3.30pm.

Five cars were involved in the pile-up, but there were no serious injuries.

A passing Kent Fire and Rescue vehicle, carrying out driver training, was first on the scene. The three firefighters onboard were able to help the casualties, before the arrival of the other emergency services.

Two further Kent Fire and Rescue crews, Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also on the scene.
