Vaclav Fibich from Gillingham narrowly avoids jail after admitting five fly-tipping offences

A man has been spared jail after he admitted five separate fly-tipping offences.

Vaclav Fibich, 41, pleaded guilty to illegally dumping waste in Gillingham.

Fibich, of Woodlands Road, Gillingham, admitted dumping waste in Buttermere Close in the town in May and June 2016 and January and May last year.

Magistrates also heard he dumped rubbish outside a department store in Gillingham Business Park in July 2016.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court for sentencing and was jailed for 12 months but the term was suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to pay £1,000 in costs.

Cllr Jane Chitty, head of enforcement at Medway Council, said: “Fly-tipping is totally unacceptable and this result shows the consequences of committing the offence in Medway.

"Fly-tipping is a selfish act and is not tolerated in Medway.

"We have a team of dedicated officers who respond to reports of fly-tipping and investigate each case to identify an offender.

"Thank you to the public for your continued efforts to report fly-tipping incidents and help us identify offenders.

"We rely on public information and will continue to take fly-tipping suspects to court and do all we can to help stop the offence being committed in Medway.”
