One of Kent's busiest train lines was shut down today after a man was seen on the tracks.

A teenager was arrested after the incident near Rochester railway station at 12.15pm.

It is thought the man on the tracks fled officers at first and a police helicopter was scrambled as part of the search.

Network Rail shut off power to the line, which runs to London Victoria, Charing Cross and St Pancras, for 25 minutes between 12.25pm and 12.50pm.

The man was later seen being spoken to by officers at the side of the line.

A Network Rail spokesman said the incident only delayed two trains.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers from BTP and Kent Police attended and a 19-year-old man was located and arrested on suspicion for trespassing on the railway.

“He is currently in custody at a local police station.”
