Man arrested following attempted bank robbery in Gillingham

A man has been arrested following reports of an attempted robbery at a bank in Gillingham.

Kent Police was called just before 9.45am today to reports a man had entered the Santander bank in the High Street and demanded cash.

The bank’s shutters came down and the man left empty-handed.

A 21-year-old man was tracked by officers after travelling by train from Gillingham and with the assistance of the British Transport Police, he was arrested at Bromley South station.

The man, from Deptford in London, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody.
