Man in his 60s charged with wounding with intent after man stabbed in Rochester Street, Chatham

A man has been remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates after been charged with wounding with intent after a man was stabbed in the chest in Chatham.

Police were called out to a flat in Rochester Street, Chatham, on Monday, where they found a man with serious injuries knife injuries.

The man, in his 30s, was treated by paramedics and taken to a London hospital where he is now said to be in a stable condition.

The police were called to a disturbance inside the flat at about 10.50pm.

Another man, in his 60s, was found in Pagitt Street, Chatham, and was treated by ambulance staff for a head injury

His injury was not described as being life-threatening and he too was taken to a London hospital, but has since been released.

Michael Mayo, 62, of Rochester Street, Chatham, was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police said this morning he had been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and had been remanded to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court via virtual link today.

He has now been remanded in custody to appear until Thursday, September 22, when it is expected he will appear at Maidstone Crown Court.

The air ambulance was also called to reports of the assault at 11pm on Monday.

The man was taken to King’s College Hospital in London with a chest injury.

He was taken by road, with medics from the air ambulance treating him on the way.

Officers from the major crime unit would now like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything in the area at the time of the alleged incident.
