Firefighters rescue man after he fell about 40ft down a bank on Blue Bell Hill, in Chatham

A man who fell about 40ft down a bank on Blue Bell Hill had to be rescued by firefighters.

Specialist line rescue crews were called out to the area near the slip road off the A229 leading to Common Road, Chatham, at about 11.15pm last night.

They found the man at the bottom of the bank, and it is understood he may have suffered a spinal injury.

Crews used ropes to lower themselves down to the man, who has not been named, and then brought him up using a stretcher.

It is not known at this stage how the man, in his 20s ended up falling, but it is understood he was treated by paramedics at the scene and was later taken to King's College Hospital in London.

Firefighters eventually left the scene at about 2am.
